New Mexico ehliyeti ile Albania ülkesinde araç kullanma rehberi.
A holder of a valid New Mexico driving licence can drive in Albania only with the required supporting documents. Current U.S. Department of State guidance says U.S. drivers must carry both their valid U.S. licence and an International Driving Permit (IDP). The relevant U.S.-issued permit is the 1949 Geneva Convention IDP. Foreign-licence use is tied to residence and ends after more than one year of residence in Albania.
For an ordinary visit, take the original New Mexico licence, a valid 1949 Geneva IDP and your passport. A separate Albanian translation is not indicated when the required convention-format IDP accompanies the licence. The Albanian Road Code uses a residence test rather than a fixed visitor-day allowance, so no fixed value is stored for maximum visitor days.
Albanian Road Code Article 133 allows a person holding a foreign national or international driving permit to drive the vehicles covered by that document provided the person has not been resident in Albania for more than one year. Article 133 also says foreign documents that do not conform to models established by international agreements to which Albania is a party must be accompanied by an official Albanian translation or an equivalent document.
The U.S.-specific position is clearer in current U.S. Department of State guidance for Albania, which says a driver must have both a valid U.S. driving licence and an IDP to legally drive or rent a car. For a New Mexico licence holder, that is the practical rule to follow.
The IDP is legally required for this U.S.-licence case according to the Albania country guidance from the U.S. Department of State. U.S. IDPs issued by AAA and AATA meet the 1949 United Nations Convention on Road Traffic standard, and AAA describes the permit as a translation that supplements rather than replaces the state licence. Albania is listed by AAA among places honoring the 1949 Convention IDP.
Carry the original New Mexico licence with the IDP. The IDP alone is not a substitute for the state licence.
Albania does not express the foreign-licence rule as a fixed number of tourist days in the cited Road Code provision. Instead, Article 133 allows use while the holder has not been resident in Albania for more than one year. For that reason, max_visitor_days is left as SQL NULL.
DPSHTRR currently provides a conversion route for holders of valid licences issued by the United States who have an Albanian residence permit valid for more than one year. For U.S. applicants, its procedure requires a driving-licence verification from the issuing authority with an apostille, notarization and certified translation, in addition to the other listed application documents.
Rental policies are separate from the legal driving rule and vary by company. SIXT Tirana says international renters need an IDP when a licence uses a non-Roman alphabet. Enterprise Tirana requires a valid driving licence held for at least three years, ID or passport and a major credit card, while its published renter requirements do not separately state an IDP. Avis Tirana says an IDP or notarized English translation may be required where licence details cannot be confirmed.
A New Mexico licence is in Roman script, but that does not remove the U.S. Department of State instruction to carry an IDP in Albania. Take the IDP even if a rental company page appears less demanding.
The U.S. Department of State says drivers in Albania should carry their U.S. passport, driving licence, IDP and vehicle registration or insurance documents. It also advises travelers to confirm whether their U.S. auto insurance covers driving abroad rather than assuming domestic coverage applies.
For one verified rental example, Enterprise Albania states that third-party insurance is required by law and included in its rates. That company statement does not establish what a personal New Mexico auto policy covers overseas.
New Mexico MVD class and endorsement limits still matter. Its published procedures describe Class D as a non-commercial licence and require the appropriate motorcycle endorsement for motorcycle operation. Albania permits only the vehicle categories for which the foreign licence or IDP is valid. Article 133 also requires relevant professional competency documents for special vehicles when the issuing jurisdiction requires them.
Obtain the IDP in the United States before travel from AAA or AATA. Carry the original New Mexico licence, IDP and passport together, and keep the rental vehicle registration or insurance documents with you. Confirm the exact rental branch rules before pickup because minimum licence-holding periods and document checks differ among companies.
