New Mexico ehliyeti ile Andorra ülkesinde araç kullanma rehberi.
A holder of a valid New Mexico licence can drive in Andorra as a visitor only with a valid 1949 Geneva Convention International Driving Permit (IDP) carried with the original licence. U.S. Department of State guidance says an IDP must be obtained before arrival. No separate translation was identified for this IDP route. The checked Andorran driving rules do not set a fixed nonresident visitor driving period.
The New Mexico licence by itself is not the verified route used here. Carry the original licence together with a valid 1949 Geneva Convention IDP. The IDP covers only vehicle categories authorized by the underlying licence and the permit.
New Mexico is a U.S. state, while Andorra is a separate sovereign country. Andorran rules do not name New Mexico for special treatment. Article 14 of the current Andorran driving-permit regulation recognizes qualifying foreign national permits and also recognizes international permits made under Annex 10 of the 1949 Geneva Convention when they are accompanied by the national licence of the holder. U.S. Department of State guidance for Andorra separately tells U.S. travellers to obtain an IDP before arrival.
This makes the verified New Mexico-to-Andorra route conditional rather than licence-only: the traveller should have the valid New Mexico licence and the compliant IDP together. No Andorra-New Mexico bilateral recognition arrangement was identified.
For a New Mexico licence holder, an IDP is required for the verified visitor-driving route. The U.S. Department of State says the authorized U.S. IDP issuers are AAA and the American Automobile Touring Alliance (AATA), and that their permits meet the 1949 United Nations Convention on Road Traffic standard. Andorran law accepts the 1949 Geneva model when it accompanies the national licence.
A separate certified translation was not identified as a requirement when the traveller carries the original English-language New Mexico licence with the 1949 IDP. The IDP does not replace the national licence.
The current Andorran regulation does not state a fixed day limit for a nonresident visitor using an otherwise valid foreign permit or IDP route. Accordingly, max_visitor_days is not treated as a fixed number. The licence and IDP must remain valid and the traveller must remain within the conditions that allow foreign driving.
Residency changes the rule. After a person obtains habitual residence in Andorra, qualifying foreign permits are valid for no more than six months. Article 15 requires the foreign permit to be changed to an Andorran equivalent before one year has elapsed. For the foreign or international permit categories relevant to a U.S. licence holder, Andorra recognizes theory for categories A and B but requires practical aptitude and road tests for each category being exchanged.
The current Andorran application form requires authenticity and category-equivalence documents for licences issued outside the EU, EFTA, and European microstates. Documents in English do not require a sworn translation under that form, which is relevant to New Mexico-issued documentation.
Rental policy is separate from the law. Europcar Andorra was the named company checked. Its Andorra pages require the driver to present a valid home driving licence, an additional identity document such as a passport or ID card, and a valid credit card. Its Andorra airport guidance also states that visitors from the United States need an IDP. Other rental companies may apply different documentary or age rules.
U.S. Department of State guidance for Andorra says drivers should carry driving permits, vehicle ownership documents, and vehicle insurance. Under the Andorran IDP rule, the international permit must be accompanied by the original national licence.
The same U.S. guidance states that liability insurance is required to drive a car or motorcycle in Andorra. The checked sources do not establish that a personal U.S. auto policy automatically provides compliant cover in Andorra, so verify cover with the insurer or rental provider.
Vehicle entitlement is limited to categories authorized by the original licence and the IDP. Exact New Mexico-to-Andorra category equivalence beyond that is unverified – confirm with official authority. Resident rules are stricter than visitor rules, and the six-month resident-validity limit should not be confused with the one-year deadline for completing an exchange.
Obtain the 1949 Geneva Convention IDP before travel from an issuer authorized by the U.S. Department of State, currently AAA or AATA, and carry it with the original valid New Mexico licence. For a rental, also bring the identification and payment documents required by the company. If habitual residence in Andorra begins, start the exchange process early because visitor treatment no longer applies.
