Kosovo ehliyeti ile Antigua and Barbuda ülkesinde araç kullanma rehberi.
A Kosovo driving licence is not enough on its own to drive as a visitor in Antigua and Barbuda. A bona fide visitor generally needs a temporary local driver licence, issued for no more than three months. The police require the original valid national licence to obtain it. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is not recognized as a substitute, and no separate translation is listed in the police application requirements.
Bring the original Kosovo licence and obtain the local temporary driver licence before driving. The legal visitor route is the Antigua and Barbuda temporary licence, not an IDP. The temporary licence can be subject to conditions stated on the document and may be valid for any period up to three months.
The Vehicles and Road Traffic Act does not create a Kosovo-specific recognition rule. Instead, section 40 allows a bona fide visitor to receive a temporary driver licence. The Royal Police Force says the applicant must present the original valid national driver licence, which makes the Kosovo licence the supporting credential for obtaining the local authority to drive rather than a stand-alone driving entitlement.
The Act has three driver-licence classes: motorcycle, private and chauffeur. A section 40 temporary visitor licence may be granted for a class other than chauffeur and can carry conditions specified on the licence.
An IDP is not the legal document that authorizes visitor driving in Antigua and Barbuda. Government of Canada travel advice states that the International Driving Permit is not recognized there and directs Canadian visitors to use their national licence to purchase a temporary local licence. Antigua and Barbuda police guidance likewise lists the original national licence, fee and local address for the visitor licence and does not list an IDP.
Kosovo does issue an international driving licence in the format described by its Ministry of Internal Affairs administrative instruction for the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. That origin-side document does not replace the Antigua and Barbuda temporary licence. No Antigua and Barbuda IDP convention model therefore applies as the legal visitor requirement.
Section 40 allows the temporary visitor driver licence for any period not exceeding three months and only where the applicant is a bona fide visitor. Because the statute expresses the limit in months rather than a fixed number of days, this record does not convert it to a day count.
The statute reviewed does not establish a Kosovo-specific resident exchange entitlement. Once the person is no longer a bona fide visitor, section 40 is not a verified basis for continued driving. Resident conversion or exchange treatment should be confirmed directly with the Antigua and Barbuda licensing authority.
Hertz published guidance for Antigua and Barbuda says a local licence is needed as well as the renter national licence. Its destination FAQ says the national licence must have been held for at least one year and asks for a passport or identity document and a credit card in the main driver name. It refers to an international permit only where one is otherwise required, so this does not turn an IDP into a destination-law requirement.
Other companies may apply different age, payment, licence-history or document rules. No broader rental-company rule was inferred from the Hertz terms checked.
To obtain the temporary local driver licence, the Royal Police Force lists the original valid national driver licence, ECD 50 or USD 20 and a local address. Under section 41 of the Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, a driver must produce the driver licence when required by police, with a statutory option to produce it at the specified police station within forty-eight hours.
No authoritative source checked established an insurance condition that changes specifically because the driver holds a Kosovo licence or lacks an IDP. Rental and private-policy coverage should be checked against the applicable contract.
The Royal Police Force says a visitor who resides in an OECS member state may not be required to obtain a temporary licence. This is a residence-based exception and should not be treated as an exemption attached to a Kosovo licence. The visitor licence itself cannot be a chauffeur licence and may contain additional conditions.
Carry the original valid Kosovo driving licence and obtain the Antigua and Barbuda temporary local driver licence before driving. Do not rely on a Kosovo-issued international driving licence as a substitute. If you are renting, confirm the specific rental company requirements before travel and keep the local driver licence available for police inspection.
This information was checked against the listed legal, police, government and rental-company sources on 2026-10-06. Driving-licence and rental rules can change, so recheck the official requirements before travel.
