Israel ehliyeti ile Barbados ülkesinde araç kullanma rehberi.
Visitors holding a valid full Israeli driving licence may drive in Barbados in the vehicle class it authorises. Barbados abolished its separate Visitor Driving Permit on 15 October 2025, and its current foreign-licence rule does not impose a general International Driving Permit (IDP) requirement. Israel’s Ministry of Transport nevertheless instructs its licence holders to obtain an IDP for overseas driving. No fixed visitor-driving period or Barbados-wide certified translation requirement was verified.
The Israeli licence is the underlying authorisation to drive. An IDP does not replace it. The principal practical issue is whether a rental desk will insist on an IDP or translation because the card includes Hebrew as well as English.
Israel and Barbados are separate countries. Section 2 of the Barbados Road Traffic Act, as amended in 2017, expressly includes a driving authorisation granted in another jurisdiction within its definition of a driving licence. The Barbados Revenue Authority requires visitors to hold a valid licence. Israeli category B covers private cars, but permission to drive any vehicle depends on the classes shown on the driver’s own card. An Israeli car licence is not authority to drive a bus, heavy vehicle or motorcycle unless the relevant class is held.
Barbados does not impose a general visitor IDP obligation in the current rule. Separately, Israel’s Ministry of Transport says Israeli licence holders must obtain an international licence before driving abroad and use it with their valid permanent Israeli plastic card. This is Israeli official outbound guidance, not a Barbados Visitor Driving Permit requirement.
The UN Treaty Collection lists both countries under the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic. Israel is also a party to the 1968 Vienna Convention, under whose Annex 7 its transport ministry describes the IDP it issues. Barbados is not listed as a party to that 1968 convention. Whether a currently issued Israeli Vienna-model IDP is accepted by a particular Barbados rental counter is unverified – confirm with official authority. Treaty participation alone does not establish a local duty to carry an IDP.
A fixed maximum number of days for an Israeli visitor to drive on a valid home licence was not established from the checked official guidance. Do not treat the former one-year Visitor Driving Permit validity as a current driving limit, because that permit has been abolished.
The Barbados Licensing Authority publishes a service for exchanging an international licence and lists a valid international licence and proof of residency among its conditions. Whether a particular Israeli licence can be exchanged, when a new resident must do so, and what tests may apply are unverified – confirm with official authority.
The Barbados Revenue Authority says rental operators must verify that each licence is valid and current. Named companies add their own requirements, separate from driving law.
| Company | Published Barbados requirements | Source checked |
|---|---|---|
| SIXT | Original licence held at least two years, minimum age 25 for listed vehicle classes, passport or ID at pickup. An IDP must accompany licences printed in non-Roman characters. | SIXT Barbados rental information |
| Enterprise, Grantley Adams Airport | Full valid licence held at least three years and passport for foreign renters. For characters outside English or Latin, an IDP or notarised English translation is accepted. Some vehicles are available to drivers aged 21–24 with a fee. | Enterprise location policy |
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms the licence is bilingual Hebrew-English. Since the two firms describe script requirements differently, check acceptance of the exact card and IDP before booking. The rental levy is BBD 5 per day, capped at BBD 35 per rental, rather than a fee for a driving permit.
Section 74 of the Road Traffic Act provides for police and uniformed transport inspectors to examine driving-licence or qualifying identification documents. Carry the original Israeli licence, and have the IDP available in line with Israeli guidance. Rental desks can require a passport and payment card.
Enterprise’s published Barbados terms include third-party liability protection in the rental rate, subject to exclusions in the agreement. SIXT describes third-party insurance and excludes protection where an unauthorised driver or someone without the required licence drives. These statements concern the named contracts, not a special insurance rule for Israeli nationals.
The Barbados Revenue Authority policy effective 15 October 2025 abolished Visitor Driving Permits. Some older Barbados government and licensing pages still explain how to buy those permits, but the later Revenue Authority policy expressly discontinued the requirement. SIXT additionally requires a medical fitness note for renters aged 70 or over. No separate Israel-specific driving exemption was identified.
Use your valid Israeli licence for the class of vehicle you intend to drive, and obtain the Israeli-issued IDP before leaving in accordance with Israel’s transport ministry guidance. There is no longer a Barbados Visitor Driving Permit to purchase. Send the rental company a clear description of the bilingual licence and IDP, and ask it to confirm acceptance and insurance requirements before paying.
Checked against the legislation, government guidance, UN treaty records and named rental-company terms listed above on 2026-10-24. This is a verification date, not the date any rule changed.
