Car Rental Everett, Washington Guide

Renting a car in Everett, Washington, is a straightforward process that offers international travelers the freedom to explore the Pacific Northwest at their own pace. Unlike the centralized public transit systems found in many European or Asian cities, Everett’s public transportation, while reliable, is limited in reach. The city’s layout is spread out, and many key attractions—from the waterfront to the Boeing assembly plant—are best accessed by personal vehicle. For travelers arriving from overseas, picking up a rental car provides an immediate sense of independence, allowing you to bypass taxi fares that can quickly add up or the rigid schedules of buses and light rail.

When deciding between airport and city center pickup, most international visitors land at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac), located roughly 40 minutes south of Everett, Washington. While the airport offers a massive selection of rental counters under one roof, you’ll often pay a significant daily airport surcharge—sometimes up to 15-20% more than off-airport locations. Conversely, picking up a car from a downtown Everett or Everett Mall-area branch can save you money, though you’ll need to take a shuttle, taxi, or rideshare from Paine Field (Snohomish County Airport), which is Everett’s local airport. A key money-saving tip: compare the total cost of an airport rental (including surcharges and taxes) against a city center rental plus a short rideshare to the office. Many savvy travelers find that picking up their car the morning after arrival in downtown Everett cuts costs substantially.

Pickup Location Advantages Disadvantages
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) Huge vehicle selection, 24/7 counters, immediate highway access Higher daily surcharges, busy queues, extra fees for one-way rentals
Paine Field (Everett’s local airport) Convenient for Alaska Airlines passengers, less crowded Limited rental desks (often just Enterprise), fewer vehicle choices
Downtown Everett / Everett Mall area Lower base rates, no airport concession fee, often free cancellation Limited hours (some close by 6 PM), requires transport from airport

Car Rentals Requirements in Everett, Washington

To legally rent and drive a car in Everett, Washington, international travelers must meet several clear requirements. First and foremost, the minimum age is typically 21, but drivers under 25 will pay a “young driver surcharge” that can add $20–$35 per day to your base rate. Most major agencies in Everett, Washington, also require a valid, unexpired driver’s license from your home country. If your license uses non-Roman characters (e.g., Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic), you must pair it with an International Driving Permit (IDP). A credit card in the primary driver’s name is mandatory—debit cards are rarely accepted unless you purchase expensive non-standard insurance. You will also need your passport for identification at the rental counter.

Insurance is where many international travelers get confused. In Everett, Washington, rental companies offer Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI), and Personal Accident Insurance (PAI). While your travel insurance or credit card may provide coverage, you must bring written proof. Without it, the rental agency will require you to purchase their daily coverage, which can double your rental cost. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is strictly required if your home license is not in English. Even if your license has English text, an IDP—available through your home automobile association before travel—can simplify police interactions and is strongly recommended.

Requirement Details
Minimum Age 21 years (surcharge applies under 25)
Driver’s License Valid home license; IDP needed for non-Roman alphabet licenses
Credit Card Major card (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) in driver’s name; no prepaid cards
Passport Required for non-U.S. residents at pickup
Insurance Proof of CDW/Liability or purchase at counter

Why Rent a Car in Everett, Washington

Everett, Washington, is the gateway to some of the most dramatic landscapes in the continental United States. While you can take a bus to downtown Seattle, having your own rental car unlocks day trips that simply aren’t possible otherwise. Imagine driving the Mountain Loop Highway to see old-growth forests and glacial rivers, or heading north to the San Juan Islands ferry terminal without waiting for a tour bus. For families, a rental car means carrying snacks, strollers, and shopping bags without constraint. Business travelers also benefit—Everett’s aerospace and maritime industries are spread across industrial zones that taxis rarely frequent.

Beyond practicality, renting a car in Everett, Washington, lets you experience the region like a local. You can chase waterfalls in the Cascade foothills, stop at roadside berry stands in Snohomish Valley, or drive to the Tulalip Resort Casino and premium outlets on a whim. Public transport in Everett itself is limited to Everett Transit and Community Transit buses, which don’t run frequently on evenings or weekends. Without a car, you’ll spend hours waiting for connections instead of enjoying your trip.

  • Freedom to explore – Start your day at Jetty Island, drive to Deception Pass, and return for dinner in Everett’s Historic Downtown.
  • Scenic drives – The Chuckanut Drive (WA-11) just north of Everett is one of America’s most beautiful coastal byways.
  • Access to nearby attractions – Reach Boeing Future of Flight, Naval Station Everett, or Whidbey Island in under 45 minutes.
  • Cost-effective for groups – Splitting a $55/day SUV among four travelers beats buying four train or bus tickets.
  • Luggage convenience – No dragging suitcases onto light rail or wrestling with overhead bus racks.
  • Spontaneous stops – Pull over for photos of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, or sunset over the water.

Best Car Rental Companies in Everett, Washington

International travelers will find both global giants and reputable local agencies operating in Everett, Washington. Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, and Budget have multiple locations including at Paine Field and along Evergreen Way. Enterprise is particularly strong in Everett, with neighborhood branches offering free pickup if you need a replacement car. Sixt and Alamo are less common here but available at Sea-Tac with one-way rentals to Everett. Europcar does not have standalone branches in Everett, but they partner with local agencies for referrals. The advantage of using an aggregator website is that you can compare live inventory across all these brands simultaneously, but always check the local branch’s Google reviews for hidden fees or poor customer service.

Company Price Level (Low / Medium / High) Pros
Enterprise Medium Excellent local service, many Everett locations, free pickup service
Hertz Medium-High Fast online check-in, large SUV fleet, accepts foreign licenses easily
Avis Medium Preferred service for repeat renters, one-way rentals to Canada allowed
Budget Low-Medium Often cheapest at Paine Field, no young driver fee under 25 (sometimes)
Alamo Low Great for road trips, unlimited mileage standard

Popular Car Rental Categories & Prices in Everett, Washington

Luxury vehicles like BMW 3-Series or Mercedes C-Class are available but typically only at the airport locations. Road Trips from Everett, Washington

Everett, Washington, sits at a perfect crossroads for unforgettable road trips. You can head west to the Olympic Peninsula, north to the Canadian border, or east into the Cascade Mountains. Here are four classic routes loved by locals and savvy international visitors.

  • Everett to Deception Pass State Park – 1 hour 15 minutes (52 miles). Drive north on I-5 to Highway 20. Highlights: the jaw-dropping Deception Pass Bridge, Bowman Bay tide pools, and old-growth forest hikes. Continue to Anacortes for whale watching.
  • Everett to Leavenworth (Bavarian Village) – 2 hours 40 minutes (115 miles). Take US-2 east over Stevens Pass. Highlights: dramatic mountain views, the rushing Skykomish River, and a faux-Bavarian town with year-round Oktoberfest. Check mountain pass conditions November–April.
  • Everett to Mount Rainier National Park (Paradise) – 3 hours (150 miles). Head south on I-5 to WA-7/WA-706. Highlights: wildflower meadows (July–August), the massive Nisqually Glacier, and waterfalls. Arrive before 9 AM to avoid summer crowds.
  • Everett to San Juan Islands (via Anacortes Ferry) – 1 hour 30 minutes to ferry terminal, then ferry to Friday Harbor. Highlights: orca sightings, kayaking in Roche Harbor, and the quirky “Lavender Wind Farm” on San Juan Island.
  • Everett to North Cascades National Park – 2 hours (75 miles). Follow WA-20 east. Highlights: Diablo Lake’s turquoise water, Washington Pass overlook, and remote camping. This highway closes in winter (typically November–May).

Driving Rules in Everett, Washington

Driving in Everett, Washington, follows standard U.S. rules, which may surprise international travelers from left-side driving countries. You will drive on the right-hand side of the road, and overtaking is done on the left. Speed limits are strictly enforced by radar and unmarked police cars. In school zones, the limit drops to 20 mph (32 km/h) during posted hours. Seatbelts are mandatory for all occupants, and children under 8 years old or under 4’9” must be in an approved car seat or booster. Washington has a “move over” law: you must slow down or change lanes for any stopped emergency or maintenance vehicle. Winter tire laws apply only on mountain passes (like Stevens Pass on US-2) from November 1 through March 31—all-wheel drive with all-season tires is usually sufficient, but chains may be required during storms.

Road Type Speed Limit (mph / km/h)
Interstate (I-5, I-405) 60 mph (97 km/h) – trucks 60, cars often flow at 65
Urban highways (WA-99, Evergreen Way) 40-50 mph (64-80 km/h)
City streets (Broadway, Colby Ave) 25-30 mph (40-48 km/h)
Residential neighborhoods 20-25 mph (32-40 km/h)
School zones (when flashing) 20 mph (32 km/h)

Alcohol limit: 0.08% BAC for drivers 21 and over; zero tolerance for drivers under 21. Washington has strict open-container laws—any open alcohol must be in the trunk or a locked glove box.

Toll Roads in Everett, Washington

There are no toll roads directly within Everett, Washington city limits. However, if you drive south toward Seattle, you will encounter the SR 520 Bridge (connecting Seattle to Medina) and the I-405 Express Toll Lanes (north of Bellevue). The most relevant toll for Everett drivers is the Tacoma Narrows Bridge (SR-16) if you head toward the Olympic Peninsula. Tolls are collected electronically via the “Good to Go!” pass system. Without a pass, a photo of your license plate is taken, and the rental company will bill you plus an administrative fee (often $10–$25 extra). Typical toll costs range from $1.50 to $7.00 depending on time of day and vehicle axles. To avoid surprise fees, either request a rental car equipped with a Good to Go! pass (ask at the counter) or plan toll-free routes using I-5 through downtown Seattle instead of the SR 520 bridge.

Parking in Everett, Washington

Parking in Everett, Washington, is generally easy and affordable compared to Seattle. Street parking in the downtown core (around Hewitt Ave and Colby Ave) is metered Monday through Saturday, 9 AM to 6 PM, at roughly $1.50 per hour. Many meters accept credit cards or the PayByPhone app. Outside those hours and on Sundays, street parking is free. The main challenge is during Everett’s summer events like the Sorticulture Garden Festival or Fourth of July fireworks—downtown lots fill by 10 AM. Fortunately, Everett has several low-cost parking garages: the Pacific Avenue Garage and the Snohomish County Campus Garage offer all-day parking for under $8. For the waterfront or Naval Station viewpoints, free street parking is abundant. The one place you must never park: any spot marked “Tow Away Zone” near the courthouse or hospital, as towing fees start at $250.

Tips for Car Rental in Everett, Washington

After renting cars dozens of times in Everett, Washington, here’s what experienced travelers wish they knew before arriving.

  • Book early for summer or ski season – Rates for SUVs in July or December can triple if you wait until the week before.
  • Avoid airport surcharges – Pick up from the Evergreen Way Enterprise or Broadway Avis instead of Sea-Tac to save $15–$25 daily.
  • Compare the total price, not the daily rate – Some Everett locations add a “vehicle license fee” or “facility charge” at checkout.
  • Choose the right insurance before you travel – Check if your credit card covers CDW in the USA; many European cards do not.
  • Rent during the cheapest months – January and February offer the lowest prices, often 50% less than August.
  • Check fuel policies carefully – “Full-to-full” is cheapest; avoid prepaid fuel unless you plan to return the car empty.
  • Inspect the car thoroughly – Take a timestamped video of scratches or dents before leaving the Everett lot, especially with Budget or Thrifty.

Common Car Rental Mistakes Travelers Make

  • Skipping the International Driving Permit (IDP) – Even if the rental agent doesn’t ask, a Washington State Trooper might. Without an IDP, you could be fined $250.
  • Assuming all insurance is included – Basic rental rates in Everett, Washington, include liability insurance at state minimums ($25,000), which is dangerously low. Buy supplemental coverage.
  • Returning the car late without notice – Most Everett branches charge a full extra day after just 30 minutes late. Call ahead to request a grace period.
  • Ignoring the Cascades mountain pass rules – Driving a 2WD economy car over Stevens Pass in January without chains is illegal and dangerous.
  • Not verifying mileage limits – While most Everett rentals offer unlimited mileage, some discount local agencies cap at 200 miles per day, then charge $0.35/mile.
  • Filling up at a gas station near the airport – Gasoline near Sea-Tac or Paine Field is often $1.50/gallon more expensive than stations on Everett’s Broadway or Evergreen Way.

Real Travel Experience Renting a Car in Everett, Washington

Marco, a photographer from Milan, landed at Paine Field on a drizzly November morning. He had pre-booked an intermediate SUV from the Enterprise on Evergreen Way, taking a $12 Uber from the terminal. The agent asked for his Italian license and IDP—Marco had both, thanks to a warning from a friend. He declined the expensive CDW because his American Express card covered it. Within 45 minutes, he was driving north on Highway 529 toward the Mukilteo ferry. Over the next four days, he used the car to catch sunrise at Deception Pass, drive the Mountain Loop Highway for autumn larch trees, and even park for free near the Everett waterfront for clam chowder. His only regret? Not reserving a Thule roof box for his camera gear. When he returned the SUV with a full tank, the final bill was exactly $279 for five days—no surprises.

International Driving Permit for Travelers Visiting Everett, Washington

An International Driving Permit (IDP) is not strictly required by Washington State law if your home driver’s license is in English and includes a photo. However, for travelers from China, India, Saudi Arabia, Japan, South Korea, Russia, or any country where the license uses non-Latin characters (Arabic, Cyrillic, Mandarin, Japanese scripts), an IDP is mandatory for legal driving. Even if your license has some English text, rental agents in Everett, Washington, may refuse service without an IDP simply because their computer systems cannot verify non-English fields. You must obtain your IDP in your home country before traveling—they are not available for purchase in the USA. Your local automobile association (e.g., AAA in the US, CAA in Canada, RAC or AA in the UK, ACI in Italy) can issue one for approximately $20–$30 USD. The IDP is valid for one year from issue and must always be presented alongside your original home license. Do not confuse this with online “fake” IDPs; only the official 1949 Geneva Convention version is recognized in Washington State.

Frequently Asked Questions about Car Rental in Everett

To rent a car in Everett, you must present a valid driver's license held for at least one year, a major credit or debit card in the primary renter's name for the security deposit, and government-issued photo identification like a passport or state ID. International renters need a valid passport alongside their home country license; an International Driving Permit is strongly recommended if your license is not in English. Digital copies are not accepted. The name on all documents must match exactly. We verify identity and driving eligibility at the counter before releasing any vehicle. Preparing these items in advance will make your pickup fast and easy.

The security deposit is a pre-authorization held on your payment card for the rental duration. For standard vehicles, we typically authorize the estimated rental total plus $300 USD. Premium SUVs, luxury cars, and specialty vehicles require a hold of the total plus $500 USD. The exact amount is confirmed at pickup. If using a debit card, we perform a hard charge that is refunded within 7-14 business days after the vehicle is returned and inspected. Ensuring your card has sufficient available balance above the deposit and rental cost prevents delays. Cash deposits are not accepted under any circumstances.

The standard minimum rental age in Washington State is 21. Renters aged 21 to 24 are welcome but are subject to a Young Renter Surcharge of approximately $27.50 USD per day, capped at 14 days. This fee covers the additional insurance risk for drivers under 25. Some specialty vehicle classes, including full-size SUVs, premium sedans, and passenger vans, require the renter to be at least 25 years old with no surcharge. A valid driver's license held for a minimum of one year is mandatory regardless of age. Military and government renters on official orders may have the surcharge waived with proper identification.

We offer several protection products to provide peace of mind. Loss Damage Waiver relieves your financial responsibility for damage or theft, subject to a standard deductible around $1,000 USD unless you purchase an excess reduction. Supplemental Liability Insurance adds up to $1 million in third-party bodily injury and property damage coverage. Personal Accident Insurance covers medical expenses for occupants. Personal Effects Coverage protects belongings inside the car. While your personal auto policy or credit card may offer rental coverage, you must verify this before declining our products to avoid unexpected liability for repair costs, loss of use, and diminished value.

Yes, you can pick up and drop off at our convenient Paine Field Airport location. The rental hub is within the new passenger terminal at 3220 100th St SW, accessible from the main arrivals hall. If you are returning a vehicle, follow the Rental Car Return signs along Airport Road. After parking in the designated stalls, a representative will inspect the vehicle and close your contract. For after-hours returns, park in any clearly marked spot and place the keys and completed contract in the secure drop box inside the rental center. A final receipt is emailed once the vehicle is checked in the next business morning.

Our standard policy is full-to-full: you collect the car with a full tank and must return it full to avoid refueling fees. If the gauge is below full, we charge the per-gallon rate posted at the counter, which is higher than local pump prices, plus a convenience fee. Returning the vehicle with an empty tank results in paying for a complete fill at our premium rate. We recommend refueling at a station within 5 miles of the return location and keeping the receipt. A prepaid fuel option, allowing you to return the tank at any level with no additional charge for unused fuel, is offered at the counter.

One-way rentals are available between our Everett location, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, downtown Seattle, and select locations in Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia. A one-way drop fee, generally starting at $75 USD, applies and is calculated based on the distance and fleet availability at the destination. Advance booking is required to ensure we can route the specific vehicle class. International one-way travel into Canada is permitted on most vehicle types, but you must notify us at booking so we can provide Canadian non-resident insurance documentation and verify if any travel restrictions apply for luxury or specialty models.

While Everett itself rarely sees heavy snow accumulation, winter driving to Stevens Pass, Snoqualmie Pass, or the Cascades often requires traction devices. Washington State law mandates carrying chains when traveling through mountain passes, and restrictions are enforced during storms. We permit the use of approved snow socks or low-profile cable chains on our rental vehicles; traditional link chains that can contact the bodywork are prohibited because they cause damage. Snow socks are available for purchase at the counter seasonally. Do not rely on all-season tires alone in severe snow; always check WSDOT pass conditions before departing.

You may add up to two additional drivers to your contract for a flat daily fee of approximately $14.50 USD per driver. They must be present at the counter with a valid driver's license to be verified and must meet the same minimum age and driving record requirements as the primary renter. Spouses and domestic partners may qualify for a fee waiver in Washington State if they meet all standard rental qualifications; please provide proof of shared residence. Authorized drivers receive the same insurance coverage as the primary renter. Anyone not listed on the agreement is uninsured and fully liable for damages.

Prepaid reservations offer the best rates. If your plans change, you can cancel up to 48 hours before the scheduled pickup time for a full refund minus a $50 USD processing fee. Cancellations made within 48 hours of pickup forfeit the prepaid amount. Standard pay-later reservations can be canceled at no charge as long as cancellation occurs at least 24 hours before pickup. No-show fees equal the first full day's rental charge apply if you do not cancel and fail to arrive. Refunds for prepaid bookings are processed within 5 business days to the original form of payment.

Most of our standard daily and weekly rates include unlimited miles within the states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, giving you the freedom to explore the Pacific Northwest. Some specialty vehicles, including large passenger vans, luxury SUVs, and exotic cars, have a daily mileage cap ranging from 150 to 200 miles, with an excess mileage charge of $0.25 to $0.75 USD per additional mile. Corporate and long-term rentals of 28 days or more often come with mileage caps. The specific mileage policy for your chosen vehicle class is clearly displayed on the booking summary before you confirm payment.

A valid United States driver's license in good standing, not expired, suspended, or revoked, is fully accepted. The license must include a recognizable photo and be verifiable. Temporary paper licenses issued by state DMVs are accepted only when the original expired license is presented alongside it. Licenses issued in U.S. territories like Puerto Rico and Guam are valid. If your license uses a non-Roman alphabet, an International Driving Permit is required. We verify licenses electronically, so please ensure your address information is current and all restrictions, such as corrective lens requirements, are noted.

Debit cards are accepted upon return of the vehicle for final payment. To use a debit card at the time of pickup, you must present it alongside proof of a round-trip travel ticket if renting at an airport location. We will perform a credit check, which may affect your credit score minimally. The initial hold for the estimated rental charges and security deposit up to $500 USD is immediately deducted from your checking account and refunded after the car is returned. Prepaid debit cards, gift cards, and cash cards are not accepted forms of payment for the deposit.

Portable Garmin GPS navigation units with lifetime map updates and real-time traffic are available for a daily rental fee of $12.99 USD, bookable in advance or at the counter. These units are preloaded with points of interest for the Puget Sound region, including routes to Boeing Future of Flight and the Olympic Peninsula. Alternatively, we recommend downloading offline Google Maps or Waze on your smartphone before your trip, as cellular dead zones are common in the Cascades. Our vehicles include Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on most current models, letting you project your own map onto the car's touchscreen.

Your safety is the priority. First, call 911 if there are injuries. Then, call our 24/7 roadside assistance hotline printed on your rental agreement. For minor accidents without injury, file a police report immediately; you will need the report number for our insurance team. Use the in-car accident kit for documentation. For mechanical breakdowns, do not drive the vehicle if a warning light flashes. Roadside assistance will dispatch a local Everett tow provider. Wait in a safe place. You must notify us within 24 hours of any incident. Our claims team guides you through the process and arranges a replacement vehicle if needed.

Yes, we provide three types of child safety seats: rear-facing infant carriers, forward-facing toddler seats with a five-point harness, and belt-positioning booster seats. The daily rental fee is $11.99 USD per seat, capped at $59.99 USD per rental period. Washington State law requires children under age 4 to be in a harnessed car seat and children under 4'9' to use a booster. We strongly recommend booking these in advance because availability is limited. Our staff will provide the manufacturer's fitting guide, but for liability reasons, they cannot install the seat. Ensure you are comfortable with the installation before departing.

Pets are welcome in our rental vehicles, but you must return the car in a clean, hair-free condition with no lingering odor to avoid a $250 USD detail fee. For the comfort and safety of your pet, they must be restrained in a hard-shell carrier or a pet-specific seatbelt harness while the vehicle is moving. No animals are allowed in the cargo bed of pickup trucks. Service animals accompanying a person with a disability are exempt from all pet restrictions and cleaning fees, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, as long as they are individually trained to perform tasks.

The closest refueling option to the terminal is the ARCO station at 1001 128th St SW, just a 3-minute drive south on Airport Road. Prices there are typically among the lowest in the Mukilteo area. If you prefer a full-service station, Shell at 3933 Harbour Pointe Blvd SW is directly across from the airport golf course and has air and water. We recommend refueling within 5 miles of the return and keeping a timestamped receipt showing the final gallon count. Avoid the single pump near the freight entrance; it is for airport fleet vehicles only and not open to public renters.

Paine Field is a compact, efficient boutique airport, but planning is still essential. If you are flying in to rent a car, the rental counter is a short walk from the single baggage claim belt. You can typically be at the counter and behind the wheel within 15 to 20 minutes of deplaning. If you are a local picking up a vehicle, arriving 15 minutes before your scheduled time is fine. However, during the Boeing tour shuttle windows in late morning and the summer cruise season, demand peaks. During those times, a 30-minute buffer ensures we get you on the road without a rushed inspection.

Washington operates all-electronic tolling on the SR 520 Bridge, SR 99 Tunnel through downtown Seattle, and the express toll lanes on I-405. There are no cash booths. If you drive on these roads, our system automatically registers the toll. You will see a convenience fee of $4.95 USD per day of usage, up to a maximum of $24.75 per rental, added to the card on file. This fee covers our back-office processing. To avoid tolls from Everett to Seattle, simply stay in the general-purpose lanes on I-5 and I-405 unless the express lane signs show they are free and open to all traffic.

Rental car return parking at Paine Field is located in the dedicated surface lot directly opposite the passenger terminal. This is for active rental drop-off only. Do not leave a personal vehicle in the rental lot, as it will be towed at the owner's expense. For personal parking while renting, use the main airport public parking garage, which charges roughly $24 USD per day. If you need to leave your personal car for an extended trip, the garage has a maximum stay of 30 days. Space is often available, but you must notify the parking office via the intercom at the exit booth for stays exceeding two weeks.

We are committed to accessible travel. Hand controls for brake and accelerator can be installed on most sedan models free of charge with 48 hours advance notice. For travelers needing a raised roof or ramp-entry minivan, our Everett fleet typically stocks a limited number of BraunAbility conversions. These are available at our standard rate for that vehicle class. We partner with a local mobility engineer for specialized adaptations; please call our local office directly rather than booking online. Spinner knobs and panoramic mirrors are also available at no extra cost, ensuring driving comfort for all renters visiting Snohomish County.

Paine Field is a 100% smoke-free terminal inside. All our rental vehicles are strictly non-smoking. A $400 USD deep-cleaning fee is assessed for smoke odor residue, ash, or burn marks. If you need to smoke before picking up or returning a car, the designated smoking area is located outside the terminal on the east side near the 100th St SW entrance curve, clearly marked with a sign and ash urns. The rental car pickup lot is a non-smoking zone. Please finish smoking before entering your vehicle to avoid locking in any odor that may trigger the cleaning penalty upon return.

One of the great advantages of flying into the Everett area is the low-friction passenger experience. TSA security wait times at Paine Field average just 5 to 10 minutes for standard screening, though this can increase slightly during the 6:00 AM business flight push. The terminal has only two gates, so crowds are minimal. This means you can consistently plan for a quick exit to the rental car lot, located a one-minute walk from baggage claim. Unlike SeaTac, where tarmac delays and long walks add 30 minutes, here you realistically transition from plane to car key in under 20 minutes most days.

Absolutely, and many of our Everett renters plan exactly these adventures. Our standard fleet, from intermediate sedans to compact SUVs, is authorized for paved and well-maintained unpaved park roads like the Paradise and Hurricane Ridge routes. However, driving on unmaintained gravel roads, fire service tracks, or river fords is forbidden and voids your insurance protections. For the rugged backcountry approach roads in the Olympics, we recommend an all-wheel drive SUV with higher clearance, like a Ford Explorer. A National Park annual pass costs $55 USD online beforehand; you can also pay entry fees of $25-$30 at the gate with a credit card.

Paine Field operates a limited passenger lounge but does not have a traditional duty-free retail store for general merchandise arrivals or departures, as it primarily handles domestic flights. A small selection of tax-free local Washington liquors and glass art is available at the terminal gift shop for departing passengers. If you are renting a car to drive to Canada and seeking true duty-free shopping, the large Pacific Highway Duty Free store is at the Blaine border crossing, about 1.5 hours north of Everett. Keep your rental agreement and passport ready to declare any goods upon crossing back into the U.S.

The mailing and GPS postal code for the passenger terminal and our rental counter at Paine Field is 98204. This covers the entirety of Snohomish County Airport operations. If you are programming your navigation or arranging a rideshare pickup, use the specific physical address, 3220 100th St SW, Everett, WA 98204, to ensure the pin drops exactly at the passenger curb. Do not use the old Boeing Tour center address on the west side of the runway, as that entrance does not connect to the commercial terminal and leads to a security gate that is off-limits to rental traffic.

Yes, we support a direct billing program for qualified businesses. Approved corporate accounts can use a blanket liability and physical damage certificate, simplifying insurance at a flat monthly net rate. Employees book under the company's Business Account Number and are never required to present a personal credit card for the deposit. Our Everett branch services many Boeing contractors, aerospace engineers, and regional tech firms with dedicated account managers who provide consolidated monthly invoices. Registration requires a business license from the Washington Secretary of State and a corporate resolution authorizing the signatory. Setup takes two business days.

For the best rates, book at least two weeks in advance, especially for peak season between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Prices rise significantly as inventory tightens for summer weekends when demand from Boeing visitors, cruise passengers from Seattle, and national park tourists peaks. Book early for Seafair weekend in early August, as the entire Puget Sound fleet sells out. Conversely, the wet season between November and February sees lower demand and more discounts, excluding the Christmas holiday week. Locking in a prepaid rate online always saves 10 to 15 percent compared to walk-up counter rates, which reflect peak dynamic pricing.

Convenient Paine Field rental

"Flight got delayed into Paine Field and the rental counters at the terminal were closed. AirportCarHub’s Everett office was still open and sent a free shuttle to grab me. That level of service saved my night. The car was a clean Hyundai and the night manager was a hero."
