Sardinia ehliyeti ile Greece ülkesinde araç kullanma rehberi.
A valid driving licence issued in Sardinia is an Italian EU driving licence and is recognised in Greece. For an ordinary valid Italian EU licence, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is not legally required and a separate translation is not required. There is no separate fixed visitor-driving limit identified for EU licence holders, although the licence must remain valid and resident rules can later affect renewal or exchange.
Sardinia does not operate a separate national driving-licence system for this purpose. The relevant origin is Italy, an EU member state. Greece recognises valid EU driving licences, so the ordinary Italian licence is sufficient for legal driving within the categories it authorises.
European Commission guidance states that a driving licence issued in an EU country can be used anywhere in the EU. Greek rules likewise provide for the continued validity in Greece of a valid licence issued by an EU member state, subject to the conditions applying to the corresponding licence category. The EU-harmonised categories include AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE, B1, C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D and DE.
An IDP is not required to make a valid Italian EU licence usable in Greece. No official recommendation to obtain an IDP in addition to an ordinary valid Italian EU licence was identified. Consequently, there is no applicable IDP convention model that this traveller needs for ordinary driving on that licence. Italy and Greece are parties to the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, but convention participation does not create an IDP requirement where EU licence recognition already applies.
No fixed maximum visitor period applies merely because the licence was issued in Sardinia. A visitor may rely on the valid EU licence while it remains valid and the relevant category conditions are met. A person who establishes normal residence in Greece enters a different administrative situation. EU guidance says an EU licence normally does not need to be exchanged simply because its holder moves to another EU country, while Greek procedures provide for voluntary exchange and for renewal or exchange in specified circumstances. Certain older EU licences with validity periods exceeding corresponding Greek rules can become subject to Greek requirements after two years of normal residence.
Rental policy is separate from licence-recognition law. Autohellas Hertz states that it accepts European driving licences for EU countries and requires a driver to have held the licence for at least 12 months. Its published terms also contain age and payment requirements. This confirms that an Italian EU licence can satisfy that company's licence-document rule, but it does not establish the policies of every rental company in Greece.
Carry the valid physical Italian driving licence. European Commission guidance warns that provisional licences and temporary replacement documents are not automatically recognised in other EU countries. Detailed Greece-specific roadside-document requirements beyond the valid licence are unverified – confirm with official authority. No special insurance rule was identified solely because the licence was issued in Sardinia. Autohellas Hertz publishes separate insurance and coverage terms for its rental vehicles.
The licence must be valid and must authorise the vehicle being driven. Provisional or temporary documents should not be treated as equivalent to an ordinary valid EU licence. Minimum-age and other category conditions can also matter. Residents should separately check Greek renewal or exchange requirements when their licence expires or where special rules for older or unusually long-validity EU licences apply.
For ordinary travel, take the valid Italian EU driving licence issued in Sardinia. There is no need to obtain an IDP or translation solely for driving in Greece with that licence. If hiring a vehicle, check the selected rental company before booking because contractual requirements such as minimum age, how long the licence has been held, payment method and authorised-driver rules are separate from Greek licence recognition.
