Sardinia ehliyeti ile Andorra ülkesinde araç kullanma rehberi.
A licence issued in Sardinia is an Italian driving licence because Sardinia uses Italy's national licensing system. Andorra recognises EU-member-state licences, so a visitor may drive on a valid Italian licence without an International Driving Permit (IDP) or translation, and no official IDP recommendation was found. The checked rule sets no fixed visitor-day limit. If the holder becomes resident, the Italy-Andorra agreement keeps the licence valid for one year from acquiring residence.
For this pair, the decisive fact is jurisdictional: Sardinia is an autonomous region within the Italian Republic, and its driving licences are issued within Italy's national Motorizzazione Civile system. The Andorran regulation therefore treats the licence as an EU-member-state licence rather than as a separate Sardinian document. An IDP is not part of the legal requirement for visitor driving, although a rental company may impose its own documentation rule.
Article 14 of Andorra's current driving-permit regulation lists licences issued by EU member states as valid for driving in Andorra. That covers an Italian licence issued to a resident of Sardinia. The licence must be valid and any restrictions or category limits shown on it continue to apply.
For resident exchange, the same regulation provides direct treatment for EU licences. It recognises all categories and their seniority without requiring theory or practical examinations, subject to the licence being eligible for exchange and the current administrative conditions.
An IDP is not legally required when the driver holds a valid Italian/EU licence, because that national licence is directly recognised by Andorra. No separate official recommendation to carry an IDP for this pair was found in the checked government sources.
No convention model therefore applies as a legal requirement for Sardinia-to-Andorra visitor driving. Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes generally that Italy can issue both the 1949 Geneva Convention and 1968 Vienna Convention IDP models, but the checked authorities do not identify either model as required for an Italian licence in Andorra.
The Andorran rule checked for EU licences does not set a fixed maximum number of visitor days. For a non-resident visitor, the key requirement is that the Italian licence remains valid.
Residence changes the position. A bilateral Italy-Andorra agreement, in force from 31 August 2024, states that Italian licences cease to be valid for driving in Andorra one year after the holder acquires residence in the Principality. Andorra's current regulation otherwise contains a six-month resident-validity rule for EU/EFTA licences but expressly defers to agreement conditions where an agreement exists. The Italian licence should therefore be exchanged before the one-year agreement period ends.
Rental rules are contractual and can be stricter than the law. Europcar's Andorra pages require the renter's normal driving licence, identification and a valid credit card. Europcar also states that an International Driving Licence is mandatory if the licence is written in a language different from the rental country and/or uses characters that cannot be read there.
An Italian EU-format licence is legally valid in Andorra. Because Europcar's published wording is language-based and does not expressly explain how it treats the harmonised Italian EU card in this situation, confirm the station's requirement before collection rather than assuming that the legal no-IDP rule controls the rental contract.
Andorra's Road Traffic Code says the driver must carry a valid driving licence, the vehicle registration certificate, proof of current insurance and, where applicable, the technical-inspection certificate. Traffic-enforcement officers may require these documents to be shown.
Foreign vehicles must have insurance covering at least the liabilities required in Andorra. Italy's Viaggiare Sicuri information for Andorra states that Italian motor insurance is valid there. Carry the insurance evidence because the Andorran code permits officers to request proof of the policy and its current validity.
The main pair-specific exception concerns residence. The Italy-Andorra licence agreement gives Italian licences a one-year period after residence is acquired before they cease to be valid for driving in Andorra. This is more specific than the general six-month rule in the current Andorran regulation and is preserved by that regulation's clause for countries with licence agreements.
For exchange, categories are treated according to the Italian licence and the applicable equivalence rules. Restrictions, suspensions, expiry or other limits affecting the original licence continue to matter. A requested supporting authenticity certificate in an exchange procedure may need to be translated into Andorra's official language, but that is different from a visitor needing a translation of the licence itself.
For an ordinary visit, take the original valid Italian licence issued in Sardinia and the vehicle documents required by Andorran law. You do not need an IDP or translation as a legal condition of using that EU licence. If hiring a vehicle, verify the rental company's IDP rule in advance. If you become resident, arrange the Andorran exchange before the one-year Italy-Andorra agreement period expires.
