Mauritius ehliyeti ile Albania ülkesinde araç kullanma rehberi.
A valid Mauritius driving licence can be used in Albania for the vehicle classes it covers while the holder has not been resident in Albania for more than one year. Albania does not make a separate IDP universally mandatory in article 133, but an official Albanian translation or equivalent document is required if the foreign licence or IDP does not conform to a treaty model recognised by Albania.
The central rule is foreign-licence recognition with document-format conditions. A Mauritius licence holder should carry the original licence and be prepared to satisfy the Albanian translation or equivalent-document rule. The treaty basis of the Mauritius-issued IDP is not fully aligned across the sources, so the IDP should be treated as supporting documentation rather than as the only proof of entitlement.
Article 133 of the Albanian Road Code applies to driving licences issued by foreign states. It allows the holder to drive in Albania the vehicles for which the foreign licence or international permit is valid, provided the person has not been resident in Albania for more than one year. The rule is therefore not a Mauritius-specific bilateral privilege. It is the general Albanian foreign-licence rule applied to a Mauritius licence.
The same article adds a document-format condition. If the foreign licence or international permit is not in conformity with models established by international agreements in which Albania participates, the document must be accompanied by an official translation into Albanian or an equivalent document.
Article 133 does not say that every foreign driver must hold an International Driving Permit. It permits use of a foreign national licence and separately requires an official Albanian translation or equivalent document when the treaty-model condition is not met. For that reason, the IDP itself is not an unconditional legal requirement.
The Mauritius Police Force Traffic Branch issues International Driving Permits to holders of valid domestic licences. The AIT/FIA IDP directory records the Mauritius Police Force as the issuer and identifies the Mauritius IDP as the 1949 model. A material source issue remains: the UN Treaty Collection records a historical UK territorial application of the 1949 Convention to Mauritius, but Mauritius is not separately shown in the current participant table. The safest treatment is to confirm the model if legal reliance depends on convention status.
The verified Albanian rule is not a fixed number of visitor days. Article 133 allows use of the foreign licence while the holder has not been resident in Albania for more than one year, so max_visitor_days is not stored as a fixed integer. Once residence exceeds that threshold, the foreign-licence rule no longer applies.
DPSHTRR publishes a conversion service for licences from EU states, the United States, Canada and states covered by listed bilateral or reciprocity arrangements. Mauritius is not among the named bilateral states on the current page. A Mauritius-specific exchange right was therefore not verified.
Rental-company policy can be stricter than the legal minimum. Europcar Albania states that an international driving licence is mandatory when the normal licence is written in a language different from the rental country or uses characters that cannot be read there, and it states that the international licence is valid only together with the normal licence. The official Mauritius licence model is in English. Other rental companies may use different rules, so no industry-wide requirement is stated here.
For the driving-document issue, the verified Albanian rule is to have the valid foreign national licence or international permit for the relevant vehicle class and, when article 133(2) applies, the required official Albanian translation or equivalent document. No Mauritius-specific roadside document checklist was verified.
Insurance conditions specific to a Mauritius licence holder are unverified – confirm with official authority. No claim is made that an IDP or translation automatically changes insurance validity.
Vehicle entitlement follows the categories valid on the foreign licence. Article 133 also requires the appropriate professional competence evidence where the issuing state requires such a certificate for driving particular vehicles. The one-year residence limit is a separate restriction from any immigration permission to remain in Albania.
Carry the original Mauritius licence and arrange supporting documentation before travel rather than trying to resolve the translation question at the roadside or rental desk. A Mauritius Police Force IDP is useful practical support and may satisfy some company requirements, but it must accompany the national licence. Where legal reliance turns on the IDP model or treaty status, confirm acceptance with the Albanian authority before travel.
