Grenada ehliyeti ile Albania ülkesinde araç kullanma rehberi.
A valid Grenada national driving licence can be used in Albania under Road Code Article 133 while the driver has not been resident in Albania for more than one year, subject to the vehicle categories shown on the licence. Albania does not make an International Driving Permit (IDP) a separate legal prerequisite. If the licence does not conform to a model under an international agreement Albania recognizes, it must be accompanied by an official Albanian translation or equivalent document.
The legal position is conditional rather than a blanket yes. The original Grenada licence is the primary driving document, the one-year cut-off is tied to Albanian residence, and translation may be required depending on whether the licence satisfies the treaty-model condition in Article 133. No current convention-based Grenada IDP issuing body or model was verified.
Article 133 of the Albanian Road Code allows a driver holding a foreign national licence or an international driving licence to drive vehicles for which that document is valid, provided the driver has not been resident in Albania for more than one year. For a Grenada licence holder, this means the permitted vehicle categories are those actually authorised by the valid Grenada licence.
Article 133 also creates a translation condition. If the foreign licence or international driving licence does not conform to models established by international agreements in which Albania participates, the document must be accompanied by an official translation into Albanian or an equivalent document, unless a special international agreement provides otherwise.
An IDP is not stated as a separate mandatory document when a valid foreign national licence is used under Article 133. The important issue for this pair is whether the Grenada licence meets a model recognised through an international agreement or instead needs the official Albanian translation or equivalent document described by the Road Code.
Albania is a party to both the 1949 Geneva and 1968 Vienna Road Traffic Conventions. Current UN Treaty Collection participant lists do not list Grenada as a current party to either convention. The 1949 record contains a 1965 United Kingdom territorial application to Grenada, but Grenada is not shown as a current participant after independence. The checked IDP repository also lists no Grenada convention ratification, issuing body, or IDP model. The applicable Grenada IDP model is therefore unverified – confirm with official authority rather than assuming that a 1949 or 1968 permit can be issued.
No fixed maximum number of visitor days was verified. The Albanian Road Code instead uses residence: the foreign licence may be used while the holder has not been resident in Albania for more than one year. After more than one year of Albanian residence, continued driving on the foreign licence is not permitted under Article 133.
DPSHTRR publishes a foreign-licence conversion process for specified foreign licences and for cases based on bilateral or reciprocal arrangements. A Grenada-specific exchange or reciprocity route was not verified, so resident conversion eligibility is unverified – confirm with official authority.
Rental rules are separate from the legal permission to drive. Sixt Albania requires a full valid licence held for at least two years and identity documentation. Its Albania terms state that a non-EU licence printed in a non-Roman alphabet must be accompanied by a valid IDP, while a translation is accepted only with the original licence. Enterprise Albania requires a valid driving licence held for at least three years together with identity and payment documents. These checked policies do not support one universal rental-company rule for Grenada licence holders.
For the driving-licence issue, the verified documents are the original valid foreign licence and, where the treaty-model condition is not met, an official Albanian translation or equivalent document. No source checked states that Albanian police routinely require an IDP from a Grenada licence holder.
Albanian Law No. 32/2021 regulates compulsory insurance in the transport sector, including motor third-party liability. Enterprise Albania states that third-party liability protection is required by law and included in its rental rates. Drivers bringing a vehicle registered abroad should confirm acceptable cross-border or border liability cover for Albania before entry.
Article 133 provides that, where the issuing state requires a professional certificate or other competence document for special vehicle categories, the driver must also hold that document. The one-year residence restriction and any separate rental-company age, licence-holding, identity, or payment conditions also continue to apply.
Carry the original valid Grenada licence and arrange an official Albanian translation before travel unless DPSHTRR confirms that the licence itself satisfies the Article 133 treaty-model condition. Do not rely on a commercial online document presented as an IDP because no current convention-based Grenada issuing body or model was verified. Check the chosen rental company terms and the vehicle insurance before driving.
This information was checked against the sources listed above on 29 September 2026. Driving-licence, residency, rental, and insurance rules can change, so confirm any unresolved Grenada-specific point with DPSHTRR or the relevant Grenada licensing authority before travel.
