Czech Republic ehliyeti ile Albania ülkesinde araç kullanma rehberi.
A holder of a valid Czech Republic driving licence can drive in Albania for the vehicle categories shown on the licence while not resident in Albania for more than one year. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is not generally a legal requirement for this ordinary case. Czech official travel guidance says an IDP is usually not required but recommends considering one. A standard treaty-recognised Czech licence does not normally need translation.
The legal position is based on Albania Road Code Article 133 and the international recognition framework used for Czech licences. The residence limit is the main time condition, not a fixed visitor-day count.
Albanian Road Code Article 133 allows a driver holding a foreign national driving licence or an international driving permit to drive vehicles for which that licence is valid, provided the person has not been resident in Albania for more than one year. Czech Republic is a party to the 1968 Vienna Convention framework, and Czech transport guidance lists Albania among the Vienna Convention states for recognition of Czech driving licences.
The licence only authorises the categories recorded as valid on it. Albanian law separately requires professional competence evidence where the relevant special vehicle or activity requires it.
For a valid Czech national licence recognised under the applicable international model, an IDP is not generally required by Albanian law. Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs guidance for Albania says that an IDP is usually not required for Czech driving-licence holders, but recommends considering obtaining one for the trip.
If you choose to carry an IDP, the relevant model for this pair is the 1968 Vienna Convention IDP. It does not replace the original national licence and should be carried with it.
Albania does not express this rule as a fixed number of visitor days. Article 133 allows driving on the foreign licence while the holder has not been resident in Albania for more than one year, so max_visitor_days is not stored as a fixed integer.
For residence, Article 134 and current DPSHTRR guidance are important for Czech holders because Czech Republic is an EU member state. A holder of a valid EU-issued licence who meets the Albanian residence-permit conditions can apply to convert it to the same Albanian category without taking the driving test. Current DPSHTRR conversion guidance requires a residence permit with a term of more than one year for this procedure.
Rental-company terms are separate from the legal right to drive. SIXT Albania says a renter must present a full valid driving licence together with a passport or identity card. SIXT also states that valid EU and EEA driving licences are accepted without an IDP or translation. This is a verified SIXT policy, not a claim about every rental company in Albania.
Albanian Road Code Article 178 requires a driver to carry the vehicle registration document, a valid driving licence for the relevant category, proof of technical inspection and the compulsory insurance certificate. Other authorisations and professional certificates must also be carried when applicable. Traffic officers may request the circulation document, driving licence and other documents that must be carried.
For a Czech-registered vehicle entering Albania, Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs guidance says Albanian border control requires internationally valid proof of vehicle insurance, described as a Green Card, and the vehicle registration document. A rental car has its own insurance arrangements under the rental contract, so the renter should check the supplied documents at pickup.
If a foreign licence does not conform to the models established by international agreements in which Albania participates, Article 133 requires an official translation into Albanian or an equivalent document. This is not the normal position for a standard valid Czech licence recognised under the Vienna Convention framework.
The foreign-licence rule also does not authorise vehicles outside the categories shown on the licence, and it does not remove separate professional-qualification requirements. Residence beyond one year changes the position and should be handled through the Albanian licensing system.
Use the original valid Czech driving licence as the primary driving document. An IDP is generally not legally required, but Czech official travel guidance recommends considering one, so a 1968 Vienna Convention IDP can be useful as a backup. For your own Czech-registered vehicle, also carry the Green Card and vehicle registration document. For a rental, verify the chosen company terms before pickup.
