Turkey ehliyeti ile New Zealand ülkesinde araç kullanma rehberi.
A current and valid Turkey driving licence can be used in New Zealand under the normal rules for overseas licences. An IDP is not mandatory in itself, but if the licence is not in English you must also carry an accurate English translation or an acceptable IDP. As of 26 September 2026, an overseas car licence can be used for up to 18 months from the last entry, reducing to 12 months from 1 November 2026.
Turkey licence holders are covered by New Zealand's general overseas-licence rules. The national licence must remain current and valid. For a non-English licence, NZ Transport Agency requires an accurate English translation or an IDP in addition to the overseas licence. The IDP therefore functions as an accepted translation route rather than an independently mandatory document.
NZ Transport Agency states that a person may drive without a New Zealand licence when they have a current and valid overseas licence or driver permit, have not been disqualified or suspended in New Zealand, and have not received a New Zealand driver licence since their last entry. A driver may operate vehicles authorised by the overseas licence. A full overseas car licence permits a car or light vehicle with a gross laden weight of up to 6000 kg, while learner, restricted or provisional licences can be subject to lower limits.
New Zealand does not make an IDP mandatory when the underlying overseas licence satisfies the language requirement. If the licence is not in English, NZ Transport Agency requires an accurate English translation or an IDP. The national licence must still be carried because an IDP does not replace it. Türkiye Turing ve Otomobil Kurumu states that it is authorised to issue Turkey's IDPs and that its permit is issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic. No separate NZ Transport Agency recommendation to obtain an IDP instead of an approved translation was verified.
As of the verification date, an overseas car licence can be used for up to 18 months from the date the driver last entered New Zealand. NZ Transport Agency states that this changes on 1 November 2026, when the car-licence period becomes 12 months from the last entry. Overseas motorcycle and truck licences can be used for up to 12 months. Turkey is not on NZ Transport Agency's exempt-country list for overseas licence conversion, so a Turkey licence is treated as a non-exempt licence for conversion. NZ Transport Agency states that applicants converting a non-exempt licence must pass theory and practical driving tests.
Rental policy is separate from the legal right to drive. Avis New Zealand states that a licence in a language other than English must be accompanied by an approved translation such as an International Driver Permit issued in accordance with a United Nations Convention on road traffic. Avis also states that the permit must accompany the valid domestic licence. No industry-wide rental requirement was established from the checked sources, so travellers should check the terms of their chosen company before collection.
NZ Transport Agency requires the overseas licence to be current and valid. Where it is not in English, the driver must also have an accurate English translation or acceptable IDP. The IDP must be carried with the national licence. A Turkey-specific insurance condition connected to the licence or IDP could not be verified, so insurance requirements are unverified – confirm with official authority.
The permitted period differs by vehicle class, and the overseas licence only authorises vehicles within the relevant entitlement and New Zealand limits. The upcoming 1 November 2026 change affects overseas car licences by reducing their permitted period from 18 months to 12 months. Turkey's non-exempt status also matters if the driver needs to convert the licence to a New Zealand licence.
Take the original current Turkey driving licence. If it is not in English, take an NZ Transport Agency-acceptable English translation or a Turkey-issued 1949 Geneva Convention IDP as well. Carry the national licence with the IDP. Before renting, check the selected company's current licence, translation, age and licence-tenure conditions because rental terms can be stricter than the legal minimum.
This Turkey to New Zealand licence and IDP information was checked against the sources listed above on 26 September 2026. The overseas car-licence time limit is scheduled to change on 1 November 2026.
