Tunisia ehliyeti ile Antigua and Barbuda ülkesinde araç kullanma rehberi.
A Tunisia driving licence does not by itself authorize driving in Antigua and Barbuda. A bona fide visitor must obtain a local temporary driving licence, which the law allows for up to three months and which cannot be a chauffeur licence. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is not recognized as legal driving authority there. Translation can still matter under a rental company's policy, depending on the script shown on the licence.
For a visitor from Tunisia, the key document is the Antigua and Barbuda temporary visitor driving licence. The national licence supports the practical application process, but the local licence is the document that gives the visitor authority to drive. An IDP does not replace it.
Section 30 of the Vehicles and Road Traffic Act provides that a person must hold a driving licence to drive a motor vehicle on a road. Section 40 creates a visitor route under which a bona fide visitor may be granted a temporary driving licence for a period not exceeding three months, with or without a driving test and subject to conditions placed on the licence. Current UK and Canadian government travel guidance also describes the local temporary licence as necessary for visitors.
No Tunisia-specific exemption or bilateral recognition arrangement was verified. The useful pair-specific conclusion is therefore that a Tunisia licence holder follows the ordinary visitor licensing route rather than driving on the Tunisia licence alone. Antigua and Barbuda law distinguishes motorcycle, private and chauffeur licences, while section 40 expressly excludes a chauffeur licence from the visitor temporary licence. Exact mapping between Tunisia licence categories and the vehicle classes that a visitor licence will authorize is unverified – confirm with official authority
Government of Canada travel advice for Antigua and Barbuda states that the International Driving Permit is not recognized and that a national licence is used to obtain a temporary local licence. This supports an IDP legal status of not required as the driving authority, because the required authorization is the local visitor licence.
United Nations treaty status shows Tunisia as a contracting party to the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic and also records Tunisia under the 1949 Geneva Convention. Antigua and Barbuda does not appear in the contracting-party lists checked for either convention. Tunisia's convention participation therefore does not create treaty-based IDP recognition in Antigua and Barbuda. No 1949 or 1968 IDP model was verified as legally applicable for this destination. No official Antigua and Barbuda recommendation specific to a Tunisia licence holder was verified, although a rental company may recommend or require an IDP as a translation tool.
The statutory visitor licence may be granted for any period not exceeding three months. Because the source states the period in months rather than as a fixed number of days, no fixed day value is stored for the visitor maximum. The licence can be made subject to conditions and can be granted with or without a driving test.
Section 40 is expressly limited to a bona fide visitor. A person who becomes resident should not assume that the visitor mechanism continues to apply. The resident licensing or conversion treatment for a Tunisia licence is unverified – confirm with official authority
SunCars Rentals Antigua states that an Antigua driver permit is required and that its rental agents can issue the local permit at the time of rental. Its published translation policy distinguishes between scripts. For a non-English home licence written with Latin letters, it recommends an IDP but does not require one. For a licence written with non-Latin letters, including Arabic, it requires an IDP or allows a professional typed translation when an IDP cannot be obtained, and the home licence must also be presented.
That is SunCars policy, not destination law and not proof of an industry-wide rule. For a Tunisia licence holder, the practical consequence depends on the script shown on the actual licence presented at the desk.

IDP recommended for non-English Latin-script licences and required for non-Latin licences unless a professional typed translation is accepted instead. Section 41 of the Vehicles and Road Traffic Act allows a police officer to require a driver to produce the driving licence for examination. If it is not produced at once, the Act provides a 48-hour route to present it in person at the police station specified by the officer.
Antigua and Barbuda's Motor Vehicles Insurance (Third-Party Risks) Act makes compliant third-party risk insurance or qualifying security a condition for lawful use of a motor vehicle on a public road, subject to the Act's exemptions. Section 14 allows police to require the driver's name and address, the owner's name and address and production of the insurance certificate or qualifying evidence, with a five-day production provision in the circumstances stated by the Act.
The temporary visitor licence cannot be a chauffeur licence, so it does not cover the statutory licence class used for compensated driving. The licensing authority may also place conditions on the temporary licence and may require or waive a driving test. The exact vehicle class available to an individual Tunisia licence holder depends on the local licence issued rather than on an automatic category-by-category treaty conversion.
Translation is a separate issue from legal IDP recognition. An IDP is not the legal authority to drive in Antigua and Barbuda, but a rental company may still use it as a translation document under its own terms.
Travel with the original valid Tunisia driving licence and obtain the Antigua and Barbuda temporary visitor driving licence before driving. A hire company will usually help, and UK government guidance also identifies the Transport Board and local police stations as places to obtain the local licence. Do not rely on an IDP as legal driving authority. If the licence presented to the rental desk uses non-Latin letters, confirm the company's translation requirement before travel. Keep the local driving licence available for police production and make sure the vehicle has the required third-party insurance or qualifying security.
