Fiji ehliyeti ile Greece ülkesinde araç kullanma rehberi.
A visitor with a valid Fiji driving licence for the appropriate vehicle category can drive in Greece under the 1949 Geneva Convention route reflected in Article 98 of the Greek Road Traffic Code, provided the driver has not established normal residence in Greece. A separate IDP is not established as a legal requirement for this route, but major rental companies checked require one for non-EU licences.
Fiji and Greece are both parties to the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic. Greek Law 5209/2025 recognizes a valid foreign licence used in accordance with ratified international conventions by a driver without normal residence in Greece. There is no verified fixed visitor-day limit in this rule. Rental documentation can be stricter than the law.
Article 98(3)(d) of Law 5209/2025 exempts holders of valid licences recognized under ratified international conventions from the prohibition on driving without a Greek licence, provided they do not have normal residence in Greece. United Nations treaty records show Fiji succeeded to the 1949 Convention on 31 October 1972 and Greece acceded on 1 July 1952. Article 24 of that Convention recognizes qualifying domestic driving permits issued by another contracting state for the categories covered by the permit.
The Fiji licence must be valid and must authorize the corresponding vehicle category. Greek law also requires the holder to have reached the minimum age that Greece requires for that category.
A separate IDP is not established as a legal requirement where the Fiji national licence is being used through the 1949 Convention recognition route. Article 98(3)(b) separately recognizes a valid international driving permit held by a person without normal residence in Greece, which confirms that an IDP is another recognized route rather than an automatic companion requirement in every case.
If an IDP is obtained, Fiji uses the 1949 Geneva Convention model. Fiji Land Transport Authority regulations authorize the Authority to issue an International Driving Permit for driving outside Fiji, and an official Japanese National Police Agency reference records the Fiji permit as the Geneva 1949 model. No Greece-specific government recommendation for Fiji licence holders was verified, but an IDP is practically useful for rental-car compliance.
No fixed maximum number of visitor days was verified in the Greek rule that applies to this pair. The relevant condition is that the driver does not have normal residence in Greece and continues to hold a valid qualifying licence.
Once normal residence in Greece is established, the Article 98(3)(d) visitor route no longer applies. A Fiji-specific resident licence-exchange procedure was not verified, so resident conversion treatment is unverified – confirm with official authority before relying on the Fiji licence after becoming normally resident.
Rental-company rules can be stricter than the legal minimum. The following published terms were checked for Greece.
| Company | Published requirement relevant to a Fiji licence | Source checked |
|---|---|---|
| Enterprise | Where an international driving permit is issued in the licence country, Enterprise requires a valid IDP together with the national licence. Fiji issues IDPs. | Enterprise Greece, Athens International Airport terms |
| SIXT | SIXT Greece states that licences from countries outside the European Union must be complemented by an international driving licence, with the full valid national licence and identity document also presented. | SIXT Greece rental information |
These are company policies, not statements of Greek statutory licence law. Check the exact terms for the branch and vehicle class before booking.
Article 103 of Law 5209/2025 requires a driver to carry the lawful driving licence and applicable vehicle documents. The general list includes vehicle registration, proof of insurance, and proof of road-tax payment, with additional documents where a vehicle category requires them.
For vehicles hired from rental or leasing companies, Article 103 provides a specific document-carrying exception: the vehicle carries a copy of its registration and the driver is not required to carry the proof of insurance or road-tax receipt. This does not remove the underlying insurance obligations. No insurance condition specific to holding a Fiji licence was verified.
The recognition discussed here is for a valid licence and the corresponding category. Detailed Fiji-to-Greece category mapping is unverified – confirm with official authority. Special or professional vehicle classes can be subject to additional qualification requirements. The treaty-based visitor route also stops applying once the driver has normal residence in Greece.
For legal driving as a non-resident visitor, carry the original valid Fiji licence and make sure it covers the vehicle being driven. For car hire, obtain the Fiji 1949 Geneva IDP before travel because the major rental companies checked impose an international-permit requirement on non-EU licences. Treat the IDP as supporting documentation rather than a replacement for the national licence when dealing with a rental desk.
This Fiji-to-Greece licence and IDP information was checked against the sources listed above on 27 September 2026. Driving-licence law and rental-company terms can change, so recheck official and rental sources before travel.
