Crete ehliyeti ile Bahrain ülkesinde araç kullanma rehberi.
A driving licence issued in Crete is a Greek licence. Bahrain may approve a valid non-GCC private-car licence for private-car driving for up to three months from entry, but acceptance is not automatic. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is not universally required for that approved-licence route, although Bahrain separately regulates IDPs and Sixt requires one from international renters. The translation position depends on the Greek licence format.
The deciding step is approval by Bahrain's General Directorate of Traffic. A Greek category B entitlement alone does not establish automatic access to every Bahraini vehicle class.
Crete is a Greek region, not a separate issuing state for international driving purposes. The Region of Crete publishes the Greek licence categories, including B for cars. Article 251 of Bahrain's traffic regulations allows the Directorate to approve non-GCC private-car licences for the corresponding private-car driving route. No official list expressly confirming Greek licence approval was verified, so the holder must confirm acceptance rather than assume it.
Article 251 does not say every approved non-GCC private-car licence must be accompanied by an IDP. Articles 294 and 295 provide a separate route for valid foreign IDPs and require presentation to the traffic authority. Under Article 295, tourists may start using their IDP on arrival if they present it to the Directorate the following day. The Bahrain government also offers a foreign-international-licence stamping service requiring both original licences.
Greece and Bahrain are parties to the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, making the 1968 IDP model relevant to this route. The FIA/AIT directory lists Greek IDPs under both 1949 and 1968, while HATSE says it now handles Greek IDPs and lists Bahrain. Confirm the currently issued model and issuing body before applying. An IDP complements the national licence rather than replacing it.
Article 251 permits Directorate-approved non-GCC private-car licences for no more than three months from the date of entry, regardless of the holder's residence status. For continued driving under that national-licence route, it calls for a Bahraini driving licence. Article 294 separately recognises foreign IDPs throughout their validity, creating a different legal route that should be checked with the Directorate for stays beyond three months. No fixed day count is substituted for the regulation's three-month period.
Bahrain publishes procedures for evaluating foreign licences and replacing licences from recognised countries. Greek eligibility for direct exchange, and any testing exemption, are unverified – confirm with official authority.
Sixt Bahrain requires international customers to hold an international driving licence, a valid national licence held for at least one year, and a passport or identity card at collection. Sixt does not accept digital licences, photocopies or learner permits. These are a named company's booking conditions, not a statement that Bahrain law makes an IDP compulsory for all visitors. No other company policy was verified for this pair.
The General Directorate of Traffic's stamping service lists an original valid foreign private-car licence, original international licence, passport and residence information. Article 295 sets the registration and presentation rule for foreign IDPs. Under Article 112, vehicle registration and ownership certificates must remain in the vehicle and be shown to traffic or public-security officers on request.
Article 108 requires liability insurance for vehicle registration. Whether an insurer or rental contract places additional conditions on a Greek licence holder is unverified – confirm with official authority. No automatic loss of cover should be inferred from the document rules.
Article 251 addresses private-car licences rather than giving blanket recognition to Greek motorcycle, truck or bus categories. Article 252 has separate treatment for foreign special-transport licences. HATSE advises holders of older Greek pink or green paper licences to obtain an IDP because those formats lack Latin-character particulars. A specific Bahrain requirement for a certified Greek-to-Arabic or English translation is unverified – confirm with official authority.
Confirm national-licence approval and the foreign-IDP stamping process with the General Directorate of Traffic before collecting a car. Bring the original Greek licence and, ideally, an authentic IDP issued through the appropriate Greek channel. For a Sixt rental, the company specifically requires the additional international document. Anyone intending to drive beyond three months should obtain individual guidance on the local-licence and IDP provisions instead of treating the initial permission as indefinite.
